Learning Story - Immersion Gardening
Learning Experience/Process:
- What stood out in this learning Experience/Process: In this learning experience the things that stood out for me the most was these three things. The thing that most stood out for me was knowing what grew in the school vegetable gardens and learning about the weeds and which ones to pull out and which ones not to. The second thing that stood out for me in this workshop was learning what you can put in a worm farm and which things that cannot be put in there. The last thing that I thought stood out for me was that gorse was actually used as a hedge plant in Scotland and when moved to New Zealand, with the change of weather and the climate it is now a spiky weed when it is planted in New Zealand.
What I Learnt:
- What did I learn during this process: During this process I have learnt how to plant a radish seed and how much sun and water it needs, also that it needs 4-8 weeks to grow and needs quite a little bit of space to grow. Also I have learnt that some weeds are important to the plants growing around them but some are not good and can be ripped out of the dirt as the plants around them don’t need them.
Next Steps:
- What will you do to enhance/extend this learning: To enhance/extend this learning I will complete the quiz that we were given at the workshop. Also I might plant some flowers and veggies at home to extend this learning.
- How will you deepen your understanding in this learning: To deepen my understanding towards this gardening workshop I will try to research some more on how to garden and the importance of keeping plants alive. Also I will take that research and use it to grow my own plants and vegetables.
